Code of Ethics*

Preamble:

The purpose of these canons is to guide the professional conduct of Montana's Accredited Logging Professionals in their relations with the public, their employers, employees, clients, and each other. Compliance with these canons helps to assure just and honorable professional relationships, mutual confidence and respect, and competent service to society. All graduates agree to abide by this code upon achieving ALP status.

Canons:
  1. I will utilize my knowledge and skills for the benefit of society. I will strive for accurate, current and increasing knowledge of logging practices and will communicate such knowledge when not confidential.
  2. I will advertise only in a dignified and truthful manner, stating the services for which I am qualified and prepared to perform.
  3. I will base public comment about logging practices on accurate information and will not distort or withhold pertinent information to substantiate a point of view. Prior to making statements about logging practices, I will indicate on whose behalf the statements are made.
  4. I will perform services consistent with the highest standards of quality to my employer or client.
  5. I will perform only those services for which I am qualified by education or experience.
  6. If I am asked to participate in logging operations which deviate from accepted professional standards, I will advise the employer or client, in advance, of acceptable alternatives.
  7. I will not voluntarily disclose confidential information concerning the affairs of my employer or client without their expressed permission.
  8. I will avoid conflicts of interest. If a conflict of interest is discovered, I will disclose the conflict to my employer or client.
  9. I will engage other experts and specialists whenever appropriate.
  10. I will not, by false statement or dishonest action, injure the reputation of others. I will give credit for the methods, ideas, or assistance obtained from others.
  11. I endorse the free enterprise economic system of the United States of America.
